our approach to AI
Artificial Intelligence is changing the world at an extraordinary pace.
Like many businesses, we use AI as a tool to help us work more efficiently, communicate more clearly and visualise ideas. But we also believe it should be used thoughtfully, transparently and with respect for people, creativity and our planet.
How We Use AI
We use AI to assist with:
-
improving and editing written content - this statement included!
-
refining product descriptions and website copy
-
visualising fabric drape, colourways and product concepts
-
helping us communicate ideas more clearly.
We have used mockups for 10 years in the fabric industry and now mostly use AI to create mock-ups of garments, fabrics and homewares.
AI allows us to explore possibilities more quickly, but it does not replace the creative thinking, experience and decision-making behind our products.
Respecting Creative Ownership
We believe creative work deserves respect.
When using AI-generated imagery, we only work from material that we own or have the legal right to use. This includes our own artwork, textile designs, garment concepts, photography and other original creative assets.
We do not intentionally use AI to imitate another brand's designs, garment shapes, artwork, collections or intellectual property.
Our aim is to use AI to visualise our own ideas—not someone else's.
RESPECT FOR CREATIVE LICENSE OF PHOTOGRAPHERS
We don't believe AI erases the contribution of the original creator. If an AI image begins with someone else's commissioned creative work—whether that's a photograph, illustration or design—we believe that creator should continue to be recognised and, where appropriate, fairly compensated. Wherever reasonably possible, we seek to maintain licensing arrangements with photographers whose original work continues to underpin AI-generated imagery used by Mua Creative.
Representing Products Honestly
Many of our product images are created to help customers understand how a fabric, garment or design may look when made.
Where AI is used to generate mock-ups, our intention is always to represent the product as accurately as possible, including:
-
artwork placement
-
fabric scale
-
garment proportions
-
colour
-
drape
-
overall appearance.
While AI visualisations are not photographs of the finished product, we continually refine them to provide an honest and realistic representation.
AI is a Tool — Not the Creator
Behind every collection are people.
The artists who create the designs.
The makers who sew the garments.
The printers, dyers, textile mills and manufacturers.
The photographers, writers and creative collaborators.
AI helps us communicate and visualise ideas, but it does not replace the value of human creativity, craftsmanship or meaningful relationships.
Our Values
We believe AI should be developed and used responsibly.
As AI becomes part of everyday life, we believe governments, businesses and communities need to better understand both its opportunities and its consequences.
We support greater transparency, thoughtful regulation and informed public discussion about the role AI will play in our future.
The Environmental Cost of AI
Artificial intelligence comes with a significant environmental footprint.
The energy, water and infrastructure required to power large-scale data centres continues to grow rapidly, placing increasing pressure on our climate, natural resources and energy systems.
We believe these impacts deserve far greater public awareness and careful consideration.
For that reason, we try to use AI deliberately rather than excessively. We don't believe AI should replace creativity for its own sake, nor should it be used simply because it can be.
Like all technology, we believe it should be used where it genuinely adds value while balancing its environmental and social costs.
Looking Forward
Technology has always changed the way we create.
Our hope is that AI becomes a tool that helps people learn, solve problems and create more thoughtfully—without diminishing originality, craftsmanship, human connection or respect for our planet.
We'll continue reviewing how we use AI as the technology evolves, always aiming to use it in ways that align with our values of creativity, honesty, curiosity and care.
